The Punjab Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the state of Punjab in northern India. Currently it consists of 117 members. The present ruling alliance is Shiromani Akali Dal – Bharatiya Janata Party which is led by Parkash Singh Badal.

Punjab has a unicameral legislature with total 117 seats for a term of five years. The same is headed by the chief minister. Charanjit Sigh Atwal is the current speaker of the house. The last election held in the year 2012, the SAD won total 56 seats, the INC won 46, the BJP won 12 and the 3 remaining seats were won by independent candidates.

The Shiromani Akali Dal , Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress are the contending political parties at Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also looking to establish name into the state in the year 2017 Assembly elections. The main political parties are Congress, BJP, Akali Dal and AAP.

Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party

The collaboration of Shiromani Akali Dal and Bhartiya Janta Party is the ruling party in state Punjab.Prakash Singh Badal is the Chief Minister of Punjab. Punjab Assembly has total 117 seats and 59 seats are required to win and form the government in Punjab.

Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP’s ally released the first list of 21 candidates for the UP Assembly polls next year. Among the 21 candidates in the first list, 12 are Sikhs. The party has also kept three candidates on reserved seats. The party has so far selected candidates from Rae Bareli, Saraini and Unchahar.

All three in Rae Bareli district, Ghaziabad, Bilaspur, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Pilibhit, Pallia, Mohammadi, Mohanlalganj, Kasta. And also Gola, Lucknow Cantonment, Ferozabad, Pratapgarh and Barkhera are among the rest.

Gupreet Singh Bagga will participate from Saharanpur Nagar. BJP’s Rajeev Gumbar is the present MLA. SAD state president Rai Singh will contest from Pallia and his wife Raj Rai will contest from Pilibhit.

Aam Aadmi Party

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its third list of more 29 candidates for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.Few selected candidates in the third list are Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee wrestler, an industrialist, a former journalist, a Behbal Kalan activist, a Sikh preacher, a private bus operator along with three former MLAs. Along with this the party has also announced 61 candidates for the total 117 Assembly seats in Punjab.Former Bahujan Samaj Party MP Mohan Singh is a Dalit face. He has also joined the Aam Aadmi Party in June. He will contest from Ferozepur rural.

Indian National Congress

Congress candidates list for Punjab elections will be announced soon and we will update you regarding the MLA list. There are total of 117 seats in Punjab assembly and 59 are needed to win and form the government.

Awaaz-E-Punjab

Awaaz-E-Punjab is a political party in Punjab headed by Navjot Singh Sidhu.The party was established on 8 September 2016. Party’s founder president is Navjot Singh Sidhu a former cricketer of the Indian cricket team. The party is planning to contest in Punjab assembly election and has launched a mission called “Better Punjab”.
